ALL About Delta 8 THC. The New High on the Block
What is Delta 8 THC?
Delta 8 THC is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in both the Marijuana plant as well as in the hemp plant. Each cannabinoid has its own healing properties & affects the body differently.
Delta-8 THC is an isomer or analog of the well-known delta-9 THC. (The main cannabinoid found in marijuana that gets you high.) This means that, on a molecular level, delta-8 THC is very similar to delta-9 THC. Delta-8 naturally occurs in very small amounts in cannabis. It has strong anti-nausea, anti-anxiety, pain relief, and neuroprotective effects. Delta-8 THC is less psychoactive than delta-9 THC. This means that you will get many of the benefits with D8 that you would get with D9 THC without getting as “high” as you would get with D9 (normal) THC.
Delta 8 THC can be found in both the Marijuana & Hemp Plant. However, it must come from the Hemp plant in order to be federally legal and fall under the 2018 Farm Bill. This is a very important distinction to understand. The same molecule can be legal or illegal depending upon where it came from. If it is extracted from the Marijuana plant it falls under the Marijuana rules and regulations. It must be extracted or made from the Hemp plant in order to be federally legal.
What Are the Effects of Delta 8 THC?
As mentioned above, delta-8 THC is less psychoactive than Delta-9 THC, but with many of its own benefits. From my own experience, I would say D8 THC is only about 70% as strong as D9 as far as the psychoactive effect goes. This means that delta-8 THC will create less of a “high” than normal delta-9 THC. This can be a desirable effect for many people seeking the benefits of THC without becoming “too high.”
Delta-8 could be the most effective cannabinoid for nausea according to Dr. Raphael Mechoulams 1995 study of delta-8 THC on pediatric cancer patients in Israel. Delta-8 THC was given to eight children ranging from 3 to 13 years of age who were going through chemotherapy for various forms of cancer. Delta-8 treatments were administered before each dose of chemotherapy and continued every six hours for 24 hours. The results of this study were extremely promising – with delta-8 THC treatments, all vomiting was prevented and side effects were insignificant. (Abrohomov 1995) In addition to its powerful anti-emetic capabilities, the National Cancer Institute cites delta-8 as having strong anti-anxiety and appetite stimulating effects… all with lower cognitive effects typically seen with THC. (NCI Drug Dictionary 2019)

What Are the Differences Between D8 & D9 THC?
- D8 THC is only about 70% as psychoactive as D9 THC and doesn’t seem to get you as high. I noticed a clearer head and was able to work without forgetting my thoughts or what I was doing. It almost seemed to make me a little more focused.
- The psychoactive effects do not seem to last as long as D9 THC and gave me more energy without the nervousness or anxiety D9 THC can cause.
- Can be purchased over the counter in most states in the USA. See list above.
How Do You Take D8 THC?
Since D8 THC is only found in very small amounts in the cannabis plant, it must be extracted out of the plant in order to use. This means there are no D8 THC Buds or flowers.
The 2 main ways to consume D8 THC would be in Vape form or in some type of oil or edible form.
Vaping is the quickest way to get the THC into your system as you will feel it within 1 to 5 minutes or so. However, it will only last for a few hours at most. You will find it blended with Terpenes to give it the flavor & strain profile. The D8 THC Vape Cartridge I tried from Deep Relief CBD was Strawberry Cough and it was pleasantly smooth and tasty. I only needed two hits to enter what I call my Zenlike state. The effects lasted about 2 hours or so.
Edibles can take an hour or more to get into your system, however, the effect can last for up to 6 hours or more. The most common edibles are Gummies & Tinctures. In gummies, they are just infused or rolled in D8 THC, and in Tinctures, it is blended with MCT oil and placed under the tongue.
Keep in mind that my experience with D8 THC was in Vape form. I had a 1-gram Cherry Cough D8 THC Cartridge that screwed onto a normal vape battery. The product was supplied by www.DeepReliefCBD.com
